Day 712 - Moving to Malaka

We don't really have much to report from today as we were literally on the bus for all of it!! The highlight of the 9 hours on wheels was the first few hours drive when we winded our way through some of the jungle and forest that cover the highlands.

Arriving in Malaka brought no reprieve as we had to jump on another local bus to make our way into the city centre and then set about the arduous task of finding cheap accommodation! We have Tony to thank as it's at his guesthouse that we're happily settling into for the next few days. He even took the time to lead us up the street to the nearest good restaurant to feed our bellies after a day of snacking.

After the meal we went for a night-time stroll under the red lights of China Town, and although all the shops were closed for the night it was fun to check out all the old buildings and peer into closed Chinese temples and the elegant St Francis Xavier Church. We finished off the evening enjoying the musical stylings of a local band, who are sponsored by the government to jam every night for a couple of hours on the riverside. It was particularly awesome to see the variety of musicians from 20 year old hip guys to 30 year old dads and right up to elderly rocksters!! It was also cool to see local families ride up on their motorbikes to sit and enjoy the music. Unfortunately as we were on the bus all day we didn't get to call big sister Carly to wish her a happy birthday - but we can do it here: HAPPY BIRTHDAY BIG SIS!!!

Adlibing musical Malaka.
