Day 708 - Swimming with sharks

The divers in the group set off this morning to the Temple of the Sea - a pinnacle off the coast at about 30m deep that sticks out of the water about half a metre and is home to an abundance of marine life. The crew came back absolutely buzzing from their dive where they saw: a hawksbill turtle feeding on the rocks; bamboo sharks huddled in groups under rocky outcroppings; puffer fish; porcupine fish; giant moray eels ... the list goes on!

After a much needed lunch Liv and Adam hugged the shoreline with their snorkels, and spent an hour and a half gazing at the tropical fish and gorgeous coral they inhabit. The eyes can't help but be amazed when you see red fan coral with white tips floating off deep rocks that contrast with the lime green tree-like coral coming out of the same point.
From the vantage point of the pier we saw a school of squid squirting their way through the water and managed to frighten some fish by doing jumps and flips of the pier.
Sean and Steven joined Adam in the water for a while and came up with a golden find hiding under flat coral: a leopard eel. Imagine a good sized moray eel with gorgeous leopard patterns and you can see why the boys were excited!!As the sun set Adam, despite being freezing, refused to get out of the water until he swam with the beautiful black tip reef sharks that come here to feed every day at dusk. He got his wish with this cute little shark and as secretly quite happy it wasn't the much larger ones we've been seeing over the last couple of days. Adlibing our last island day ... for now.
