Day 583 - Exploring Jain Temples and the Thar desert

When we went inside the fort yesterday, the Jain temples were closed, so we ventured back today to have a look inside these phenomenal places of worship. Inside we found that the temples were just as amazing as the outside, but even more spectacularly carved. We were able to enter 6 of the 7 temples, all made out of the same combination of red and gold stone, where we took our time taking in all the intricate details. Nothing was overlooked by the highly skilled stone masons: not only were the statues of the gods carved, but so was the ceiling, the pillars, and the doors. It hard to describe such detail, especially when there's just so much of it!!
In the afternoon we hopped in a jeep with 4 Indian tourists and headed out to the Thar Desert, which is basically a rocky scrub land interspersed with sandy locations and our destination was one of these: the Sam Sand Dunes. We briefly stopped off on the way to look at a geological museum housed in an old fort, which we didn't go into as we preferred to check out the ruins of a village below instead.
At the dunes we tried to avoid the hordes of people as best we can, but seclusion was an impossible task: there were so many people and camels everywhere we looked!Nevertheless when the sunset arrived we got some pretty awesome views as colours exploded across the never ending horizon. Adlibing temples and Thar.
