We all woke up and quickly exited from our boiling hot tents and despite out weary feet set off hiking into the beautiful sunny day. About 10 minutes after we set off we came across a couple of travellers Adam knew from Jinan packing up their camp which is opposite Huis Uul (Belly Button Lake) - what a small world, considering we're in the middle of central Mongolia.
The flies were obviously tired from harassing us all day yesterday, and gave us a break for the first few hours, which gave us the chance to really enjoy the amazing scenery we were making our way through. We made it to Duruut Uul (Stirrup Lake) where Adam swam across the lake in his birthday suit, while the rest of us wandered around to meet him at the other side and take him his clothes! We passed Buugat Uul (Rainbow Lake) on the way to Xaliut Uul (Reindeer Lake) where we stopped for lunch and a lie in the sun. Here the sky started threatening us with dark clouds, so we decided to skip another small lake and made a fast track for Shanna Uul (Face Lake) and Shireet Uul (Table Lake) 2 long lakes that join in the middle, where we set up camp for the night. We waited for the clouds to clear, and then jumped in the freezing cold lake to clean off some of the last few days' muck - but because it was so cold we couldn't stay in for more than 2 minutes - and the lads were talking an octave higher for the rest of the night!!!After defrosting we spent more than an hour gathering firewood from the forest that surround the mountains and lake, and then relaxed until dinner.Just as night was falling we lit the fire with the help of our horseman and his kids - during the next 3-4 hours we managed to dry clothes in the heat while watching the kids play pretend horsey using tree branches (even though they had spent all day on a horse!). Franco started what would become a regular wrestling game with the Mongolian men - then the yaks came over and took the fun out of it by going over the top and hurting people - another reason our van got its name! The night was really enjoyable, spent chilling, chatting, and warming up before retiring to tents.
Adlibing it at our Mongolian Lake house.
