Day 391 - Chilling in Hohhot

Today we had a lovely lazy day in the Hohhot heat. While relaxing at the hotel we were looking at our train tickets to Mongolia and had a minor stress when we saw that it said we had hard seats, instead of sleepers. Not only did we not fancy spending 24+ hours in a hard seat, but we had also paid a LOT for our tickets. So we quickly made a trip to the train station where we found a guy who could speak English, who was certain that we have sleeper tickets - he does the trip all the time, so we're hoping he's right. But, regardless we're headed to Mongolia and if that means sitting on a hard seat to get there, we don't really care!

In the afternoon we had a mission around in search of books as we have hardly seen any foreigners lately to swap our books with. First, we tried going out to the Youth Hostel, but they didn't have any books, so we relented and went to the Foreign Languages Bookstore and bought a couple of classics (that's all they have)!. So we're reading Gullivers' Travels and the Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.

We had icecreams in the park hiding from the Hohhot Hot sun before heading to do some more research on the internet. For dinner we had the best meal in a long time down a street filled with fruit and snack stalls, and then set off through the much cooler evening to the supermarket to stock up on our supplies for the train, where we passed people playing pool on a roadside, movable pool table!Adlibing it away from tourist sites for a change.
