Day 672 - Mega Market

The further south we head the less chance we have of sleeping in and there is certainly no need for an alarm as the heat forces us out of bed well before our body and mind are ready for a new day!

Our major destination for today was the market a few kilometres out of town, and we walked there despite the heat as there is no way we are getting on another bus after yesterday's ordeal!

The markets were spread out as far as the eye could see and contained everything and anything you need to live the laid back life of Laos. We made our way through to the prepared food section first and had some fresh spring rolls made before our eyes. After devouring these we had a few extra packed into a bag for later.

We wandered amongst the fresh produce picking out carrots, cucumbers, mangoes, oranges, and bananas until our hands could no longer accommodate any more bags! Arms loaded up we checked out some of thew wares that Laos is famous for including silver jewellery and textiles but managed to avoid collecting any more bags.

Tired from all our shopping we sat back down to enjoy some more food, it's especially great for Liv at the markets because its much easier to get veggie food and it is also cheap! We enjoyed huge rice meals and ice cold coffees, while overlooking the large market as well as watching a nearby stall owners attack coconuts. Before leaving the market we bargained our way into a bag full of baguettes and set off to lug our shopping home.
With the rain pouring down, we retreated to the shelter of an internet cafe where Liv did the first grown-up thing she's done in a while, working on her CV! The others stayed back at the guesthouse playing cards before we all went out for a meal and home to bed.
Adlibing shopping.
